Inner City Bluez

I was raised in an all crip neighborhood and saw the beauty, pain, and fraternity of gang culture. Furthermore, the impact it had on everyone in the community—good and bad. I chose to document former and current gang members to show the art, humanity and authenticity of the culture, without glorifying or capitalizing the pain.

Capturing and showcasing the truth allows us to grow beyond the stoicism that popular culture has assigned to all gang members. The title is a nod to Marvin Gaye’s hit single.
